Condom Couture 2012 – Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio

I was honored to once again photograph Condom Couture benefiting Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio, this being my third year for doing so and a very important year with an impending election that, if it goes the wrong way, could mean the end of funding for such a vital organization.  Regardless of your politics, defunding an organization that provides cancer screenings and much-needed health services for women is just wrong.  This annual fundraiser certainly helps, but we cannot afford to risk no federal funding.

Condom Couture gives fashion design students from CCAD approximately 800 condoms to construct amazing garments that grace the runway at Shadowbox Theater in the Brewery District.  It’s really hard to fathom that these beautiful outfits are made of condoms!  The designers raise the bar every year and this year’s showing was nothing short of phenomenal.

Here is a little preview of the highlights of Wednesday’s event, and once the gallery is live (www.karenevanspictures.com/photocart), 50% of all proceeds of any photo purchases will go directly to Planned Parenthood.

OSU – Tour of the New James Cancer Hospital

I always appreciate the opportunity to photograph something outside the norm, and shooting a tour of the new James cancer hospital at OSU while it’s still under construction is certainly outside the norm.  We are extremely lucky to have The James in Columbus and the new facility will be truly amazing.

OSU College of Nursing – 2012 Reunion / Alumni Weekend

Over Alumni Weekend at OSU, I was asked to photograph a number of festivities planned for The Ohio State University’s College of Nursing.  I started with a tour of the college with members of the class of 1962, stopped in at a nutrition class, listened in/photographed the State of the College Address given by the dynamic dean, Bernadette Melnyk, and finished up the day with the reunion held at the Faculty Club.  The next day, I met up with the group at Newton Hall for a tailgate prior to the big game against Nebraska.  In addition to food, music, a caricature artist, and prizes, we were paid a visit by Brutus Buckeye and the football cheerleaders.  Top that off with a great and decisive win over the Huskers, and it was a great weekend to be a Buckeye!
