Becky and Adam – Schiller Park wedding

I love a trusting bride, one who sees my work online and hires me through an e-mail exchange. I especially love it when we meet up before the wedding and we hit it off like gangbusters. Such was the case with Becky. I liked her immediately from her e-mails, but meeting her in person was the icing on the cake. I loves me a great sense of humor and salty language, and Becky proved to be right up my alley. Her wedding to Adam was a smallish affair at Schiller Park on what had threatened to be a soggy, overcast day. Shortly before the ceremony, though, the clouds parted and we had those brilliant blue skies you get only in mid-September, with big white puffy clouds and lovely warm sunshine. We followed the ceremony with pictures along our walk to the reception in the banquet room at Schmidt’s. I have to say, that place has some of the most beautiful light streaming in through the windows. The building faces west and the windows were covered in gauzy sheers, filtering the light in so wonderfully. Pure heaven for a light junkie like me.

And baby makes three – Columbus Ohio family photographer

I’ve said it before, but it bears repeating. To me, it is a supreme honor to be asked by another photographer to photograph important milestones in their lives. When I was originally asked to photograph Nicole and Trent’s wedding reception, I thought, “me, really??” And now Nicole has asked that I make mommy/baby photographs of her and her newborn and, again, I felt immensely honored and, of course, a little nervous. Nerves, after all, help make better pictures. It’s when you’re not nervous – when you’re overconfident in your abilities – that’s when things go awry. Things did not go awry with Nicole and her sweet bundle of joy with his beautiful little baby eyebrows. Fall in love for yourself.

Halfway to St. Patrick’s Day Party for Cystic Fibrosis

If it’s September, it’s halfway to St. Patrick’s Day and that means it’s time for the annual Halfway to St. Patrick’s Day Party organized by my old law firm, Vorys Sater Seymour and Pease, and benefiting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. It’s an amazing party with a lot of wearing o’ the green, Irish food, Irish step dancers with big floofy wigs and, of course, a Leprechaun. This year, the wonderful Monica Day hosted the festivities/silent auction, and did as wonderful a job at this event as she does every year at Cakes for a Cause, the other major charitable event I photograph every year. Please mark your calendars for next September to attend this fantastic fundraiser at Smith Bros. and contribute to a good cause! And, while you’re at it, plan to attend Cakes for a Cause!
