And now, for some cake! It’s that time of year again, when bakers unite to donate their yummy treats in support of feeding Central Ohioans through Mid-Ohio Foodbank. We had some new participants this year (Mark Dantzer, Dee W. Ieye, Cera Marie), as well as old favorites (Monica Day, La Petite Fleur, Made from Scratch, Short North Piece of Cake), and the event was a smashing success, raising over 25,000 meals! That’s a phenomenal number. In addition to photographing the event again this year, I bid for and won a membership to the Columbus Museum of Art, and I couldn’t be more excited to use it!

I’ve stated many times that my job affords me opportunities to photograph a variety of people and events, and that is one of the best parts of being a photographer. Yesterday, that opportunity came in the form of being able to play “Pete Souza” to Michael V. Drake, the new president of The Ohio State University, over the course of his day celebrating his official investiture as the University’s 15th president. There was a lunch with family and local dignitaries, held in the performance space at the Wexner Center, followed by the official ceremony and reception at Mershon. There were many other photographers in attendance – four from the University alone – but they all had special assignments and mine was to “do my thing”, which meant shadowing President Drake and capturing the emotion and importance of this day to him and his family. Every year, I photograph Michelle and Mike’s family and, this year, they’ve added a new member, Blake, the first boy. Mike has been seriously outnumbered for a while now, so Blake has definitely balanced the scales a bit. I went to their home again where we did a little slice of life – bathtime for three little ones. It’s always so much fun to see how the kids change from year to year.
