Amy and Spencer – Columbus, Ohio wedding

Over the Labor Day weekend, Tracie and I had the great good fortune of spending the day with Amy and Spencer on their wedding day. It was a beautiful day and we couldn’t have asked for better weather. We started at The Westin where everyone got ready, orchestrated Amy and Spencer’s first look in the lovely lobby, then traipsed around town on a trolley for a fun portrait session followed by ice cream at Jeni’s (only the world’s best ice cream!). Amy and Spencer’s ceremony was held at Franklin Park Conservatory, on the west terrace, and the chuppah was absolutely beautiful, constructed from twigs and branches. After the ceremony, I followed Blue Skies Video around and shot in the periphery while they did their thing for Amy and Spencer’s video. Then on to a fantastic party in the Palm House, where the hora was the best I’ve seen and almost got me knocked over a few times, but I loved being right in the middle of the fray. It was a very great day and I love the images we got, so here’s a big sampling:

Snee. Rest in peace, little buddy.

Amy is definitely a natural in front of the camera.

I LOVE the look on Amy’s face here as Spencer moves in for a big old bite of her ice cream.

My favorite image. I loved the intimacy and emotions of the ketubah signing and where Amy received her Hebrew name.

The group of people off to the right were actually photographers and their clients shooting an evening engagement session at Franklin Park, and stopped for a minute to watch us.

I have to say, for the record, that I LOVE the way Spencer has turned out his ankle in this shot. The portrait was actually set up by Blue Skies – this is when I was just tagging along – but the posing was all Spencer! He’s so graceful and elegant here and reminds me of Fred Astaire.

“Time alone” (which means with me!) for their yichud. I love the series of images made during this time.

Notice they’re making the same movement. That’s what I love about this image.

Over the course of the year leading up to their wedding, Spencer learned the guitar so he could serenade his new wife at the reception.

OK, I’ve seen lots of things happen at a cake-cutting but never a fork to the eye.

You can see how Amy is steeling herself against what’s about to happen.

Hilarious.

Congratulations, Amy and Spencer! Thanks so much for sharing your day with us!

The International Society of Professional Wedding Photographers, of which I’m a member, is sponsoring a self-portrait contest where the winning entry receives paid registration to attend the Foundation Conference in Dallas in November. While I’m already signed up to attend this amazing conference (http://www.fconference.com/), hosted by the world’s best wedding photojournalists, it would be super nice to have my registration fee refunded by winning this contest!

How can you help, you ask?? Well, all you have to do is following this link: http://www.ispwp.com/win-free-registration-for-foundation-conference-self-portrait-contest.html and state in the comments field that you’d like for me to win! Easy as pie!

Michelle and Mike – Columbus, Ohio wedding

Settle in – it’s going to be a nice long one! A couple weeks ago, Tracie and I photographed Michelle and Mike’s beautiful wedding at Immaculate Conception, followed by a lovely pink-themed reception at The Columbus Athenaeum, one of my favorite spots. We had lots of time for portraits between the ceremony and reception and even got to spend some time at Michelle and Mike’s home before we headed down to the Renaissance for some intimate portraits in their room. We made use of the gorgeous lobby there as well. It was such a great day filled with lots of love and laughter. Congratulations, Michelle and Mike, and now on to the show!

Michelle and her daughter Taylor putting out the programs.

Enjoying a quick bite before everything gets started.

Taylor, showing off the back of her dress.

Not the part of the bouquet that’s usually photographed, which is why I like this shot! (Don’t worry – I also shot the part with the petals!)

Tracie’s shot. Love the thumbs up.

The getaway car, a 1968 Chevelle. Sweet.

The pooch.

Taylor’s girlfriends admiring Mike’s unique ring.

More pooches.

In Michelle and Mike’s beautiful and vibrant bathroom.

These next few are at the Renaissance. Isn’t Michelle’s dress gorgeous?? It was actually two pieces, and, as you can tell, fit her like a glove.

Tracie got this great shot of Michelle’s reflection in the mirror.

Down to the Renaissance lounge for drinks with friends before more portraits.

Thanks to my buddy Brian from True Video for lending his video light to these shots.

OK, is this place dreamy or what?? This is the Large Theatre.

The spotlight the Athenaeum shines on the cake table makes it look so dramatic – I love it!

Mike, giving a very touching and extremely funny speech about he and Michelle’s relationship.

I always love shooting the servers moving the cake. I figure if the cake is on the move, I need to pay attention in case it strays from its intended course.

The moms, having a blast on the dance floor.

Michelle, wearing Mike’s glasses.

Congratulations, Michelle and Mike, and thanks so much for having us share your day!!
