It’s no secret that I love THE Ohio State University. I’m a lifelong Buckeye fan, rabid even. I love Ohio State. Whenever I’m asked to photograph something for them – which is often – I always feel extremely honored. Walking around campus, in and among the buildings and students and faculty, always makes me feel like I’m part of something spectacular and hopeful.
At the last minute, I was asked to photograph the commencement eve candlelight ceremony and 2016 spring commencement itself. Because of weather concerns, the candlelight ceremony – originally to be held outside on the Oval – was moved inside the Ohio Union, and still drew over 1500 people. Commencement the next day was the largest graduating class ever, at over 11,000. I was given a “working media” pass which allowed me all-access and I took full advantage, starting with the line-up in the French Field House, being down on the field as they processed into the stadium and as they were handed their diplomas, and mingling in the melee of new graduates and their excited friends and families. Such a wonderful experience, for them and for me. Go Bucks!
