I’ve stated many times that my job affords me opportunities to photograph a variety of people and events, and that is one of the best parts of being a photographer. Yesterday, that opportunity came in the form of being able to play “Pete Souza” to Michael V. Drake, the new president of The Ohio State University, over the course of his day celebrating his official investiture as the University’s 15th president. There was a lunch with family and local dignitaries, held in the performance space at the Wexner Center, followed by the official ceremony and reception at Mershon. There were many other photographers in attendance – four from the University alone – but they all had special assignments and mine was to “do my thing”, which meant shadowing President Drake and capturing the emotion and importance of this day to him and his family.
