About Me
You'll notice there are more pictures of the dog and cat than of me. That is entirely intentional. I prefer to be on my side of the camera, thank you very much.
Murray the cat is the king of our household and lets no one forget. My friends all say Murray should have his own blog. Considering the fact that he's unable to write or take selfies, it's probably unlikely. Hildy the dog is getting to be a senior citizen and, when not constantly underfoot, just tries to stay out of the cat's way.
I live in Columbus, Ohio and have my whole life. I've always loved photography - my dad had a darkroom when I was growing up and one of his pictures of me won $10 in a newspaper photo contest. We'd go to the library as a family and I'd come back with those big Life and Look picture books and spend hours and hours studying all the pictures. Then, when I was older, I'd be the one who'd go on a long weekend and shoot 20 rolls of film, expecting friends and family to look at every single picture. (Lucky for you, I've since learned to edit.) So, all that to say I've come by it honestly.
I started this business in 2003 after having shot a few weddings alongside other photographers. I had a vision for how I wanted to do things and running my own show was the only way to make that happen. I quit my day job in January 2007 and have been full-time ever since, having shot hundreds of weddings, events and families over the years.
Although I do a lot of photography-related things, including charitable events and commercial work for a variety of corporate clients, I also do non-photography stuff. I love to cook, and, while I wouldn't call myself a "foodie" necessarily, I'm all about nutrition and how foods can heal what ails you. I'm a reluctant gardener, loving the food but hating the work that goes into growing it. I love to read but never thought I'd love a Kindle until I got one, and now we're inseparable. I read mainly nonfiction, but won't turn down a really good novel. And, I am not ashamed to admit that I love to watch TV, especially if I can binge my favorites while editing. I love The Good Wife, Shark Tank, House of Cards, Orange is the New Black, Transparent, and Survivor - my one guilty reality-TV pleasure.
And, of course, I like to take way too many cell phone pictures of my cat and post them on Facebook. I mean, who doesn't, right?
