{"id":1764,"date":"2012-03-08T19:54:49","date_gmt":"2012-03-09T00:54:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.karenevanspicturesblog.com\/?p=1764"},"modified":"2012-03-08T19:55:47","modified_gmt":"2012-03-09T00:55:47","slug":"rug-weaving-at-columbus-cultural-arts-center","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/karenevanspictures.com\/blog\/2012\/03\/08\/rug-weaving-at-columbus-cultural-arts-center\/","title":{"rendered":"Rug weaving at Columbus Cultural Arts Center"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While I&#8217;ve spent the last couple of weeks slaving away getting my rug warp onto the loom, I&#8217;ve foregone blogging about it since loading up the loom is about the same whether for a scarf or a rug, and who wants to read about that laborious process twice?<\/p>\n<p>One thing I did in the loading this time that I just watched last time was attaching the harnesses to the treadles.\u00a0 And, now that I&#8217;ve done it, I&#8217;d have to say I prefer watching it done.\u00a0 It wouldn&#8217;t be so bad but it requires cramming your body into an uncomfortable position on the floor where there&#8217;s no real leg room or head room, and it also requires no fewer than three hands.\u00a0 Glad I&#8217;ve been doing yoga or I&#8217;d probably still be stuck under the loom, although yoga does nothing for a hand shortage.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1765\" title=\"shot_1331231204077\" src=\"http:\/\/kep.goodgallery.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/shot_1331231204077.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"612\" height=\"612\" srcset=\"https:\/\/karenevanspictures.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/shot_1331231204077.jpg 612w, https:\/\/karenevanspictures.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/shot_1331231204077-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/karenevanspictures.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/shot_1331231204077-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/karenevanspictures.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/shot_1331231204077-160x160.jpg 160w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 612px) 100vw, 612px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>With that done, it was time to start weaving with the fabric I&#8217;d torn into strips.\u00a0 That is, after I untangled the mess they&#8217;d become since, instead of balling them up into an organized manner, I&#8217;d just stuffed all the fabric into Giant Eagle bags in a big fat hurry.\u00a0 Not ideal.\u00a0 So, if you ever decide to make a rag rug, keep your rags balled.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1766\" title=\"shot_1331240457093\" src=\"http:\/\/kep.goodgallery.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/shot_1331240457093.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"612\" height=\"612\" srcset=\"https:\/\/karenevanspictures.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/shot_1331240457093.jpg 612w, https:\/\/karenevanspictures.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/shot_1331240457093-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/karenevanspictures.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/shot_1331240457093-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 612px) 100vw, 612px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>For a project I was told would be quick and easy, so far it&#8217;s been anything but.\u00a0 I&#8217;m guessing I was told it would be quick because the fabric strips take up so much room that it&#8217;s easy to weave a large piece in a short period.\u00a0 However, because I&#8217;m a little picky (OK, a LOT picky), I have to make sure all my fabric strips are perfect, and that is not a quick process.\u00a0 There&#8217;s also the issue of the pattern I chose.\u00a0 Not as easy as it originally seemed, especially when looking down on it.\u00a0 Oddly, I can&#8217;t discern the diamond pattern unless I stand about three feet away from it and at an angle to it (back up if you can&#8217;t see it either).\u00a0 But, I must say, I&#8217;m loving it and know that all the difficulty will be totally worth it.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-1767\" title=\"shot_1331245403664\" src=\"http:\/\/kep.goodgallery.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/shot_1331245403664.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"612\" height=\"612\" srcset=\"https:\/\/karenevanspictures.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/shot_1331245403664.jpg 612w, https:\/\/karenevanspictures.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/shot_1331245403664-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/karenevanspictures.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/03\/shot_1331245403664-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 612px) 100vw, 612px\" \/><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>While I&#8217;ve spent the last couple of weeks slaving away getting my rug warp onto the loom, I&#8217;ve foregone blogging about it since loading up the loom is about the same whether for a scarf or a rug, and who wants to read about that laborious process twice?
